Finally, after so many days I am back on this site. I am reading this series after a long time and it is becoming better now. Naruto receives the news of Jiraya's death. Shikamaru with the help of Naruto and others try to decipher the code that Jiraya left behind. What can it probably mean? Meanwhile, Pain makes his move to Konoha. Sasuke is also battling with Eight Tails who is looking far more superior. Naruto learns the senjutsu but will he be able to master this technique?

This volume was a nice change of pace. We get a renewal of goals for Naruto, a bit of comic relief to offset his Master's death, and the beginning of a great training montage. Do I like training montages? Why yes, yes I do. I don't find them tedious or pointless at all. I am, after all, also a student of Dragonball. More importantly, for this volume, I really loved the big reveal scenes for Sasuke's postmortem. Ready to level up, Sasuke? Oh yeah, and everything you ever thought you knew is wrong! After a few intense volumes we kind of slow down a bit in this one to really introduce the all new Sage Jutsu and the Mount Myoboku Toads who will teach Naruto a way to possibly take down Pain. The other story taking place is Sasuke and the newly formed Taka take on thier first Akatsuki mission to track and defeat the Eight Tails Jinchuriki. Naruto needs to hurry because Pain and Konan have set out for Konoha!!!

Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people. Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world. Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child. On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time. Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers. Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasuke’s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption. Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and he’s regarded as a god among shinobi that’s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes. The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasuke’s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes. The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that don’t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clan’s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clan’s ability to jump into other people’s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clan’s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their master’s battle skills. Then there’s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemy’s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on. On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story. Being a massive 700 chapter series, it’s not too surprising that there’s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts don’t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc... Naruto’s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I can’t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that I’m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.

The book Naruto Volume 44 is about Sasuke a rogue ninja who left the hidden leaf. Sasuke wants to kill his brother because Itachi killed his own clan requested by the Third Hokage. Here's the thing about Kishimoto: he may focus way too much on Sasuke and have no sense of pacing to speak of, but when he gets an emotional moment right, he gets it really right. Case in point: Naruto's reaction to learning Jiraiya is dead. Iruka's reappearance was an especially nice touch.

Taking forward his master's techniques, Naruto starts learning how to perform Senjutsu. Heartbroken about Jiraiya's death, he's hell bent on taking revenge on Pain. What I feel is that it felt a little rushed.

Man, this one was sad too. The aftermath of losing someone loved so much was just devastating. However, this book recovers from the heartbreak and opens the plot up for some new characters, and some new clues, and insights into who Pain really is. We also get to meet Killer Bee and, I have to admit, at first I wasn't a fan of him. He was a stereotype and annoying and odd, but as I got to know him, he became another character I loved. And Sage Jutsu comes into play here as well! Reading it and kn Man, this one was sad too. The aftermath of losing someone loved so much was just devastating. It was almost painful seeing Tsunade but especially Naruto grieve for Jiraiya. I really like how Shikamaru managed to cheer up his good friend though. I’m curious to see how exactly the Pain plans to try to capture Naruto, as well as how Team Taka plan to subdue the Eight Tails.

Playing as a spy for both his clan village’s police force and their village Konoha’s government spying on his clan. Being a double agent, gaining his mangekyo sharingan through questionable methods, to get stronger and stronger. Teaming up a supposed long dead member from the past who was exiled in order to complete a mission given to him by the Leaf’s government top brass to kill his clan or to kill himself. Born in the Second Great Ninja World War Itachi had only witnessed death and destruction and only wanted peace. When this child prodigy became captain of the Leaf’s Anbu Black Ops (an assassination squad) he was given a top-secret mission. This mission entailed him to spy on his clan who were forming a coup on the Leaf village because they weren’t happy with their role in the village. Upon coming home his father asked him to spy on his Leaf village to find out their motives. Betraying his family he told the Leaf that his clan were planning a coup to take control of the village. So the Hokage (The fire shadow and leader of the Leaf village) and his council of advisors came to the decision that they needed to destroy the Uchiha clan in order to prevent another Ninja War. Itachi being raised during a time of war didn’t want to see another so he accepted it with remorse. The problem he faced though was that he was not strong enough to take them all out. So he needed to attain a stronger sharingan. Killing his best friend and girlfriend got him this new level of sharingan but he didn’t know how to use it, so he had to find someone who could teach him. After searching for a short period he found who he was looking for…. Uchiha Madara the first Uchiha to attain and master the mangekyo sharingan with his twin brother. Training rigorously with Madara he found out all that Madara was willing to teach him but he still needed help to take out his clan in the end and asked Madara. The night of the massacre Itachi and his exiled relative cut off the clans power making an blackout and struck swiftly and mercilessly splattering blood all over the remains of their family’s estate killing everyone except his little brother to survive as a favor for Itachi to the Hokage or he’ll release all his village’s secrets to the other nations. About six years later more or less after battling his younger brother Sasuke in the Uchiha’s secret hideout he gives him a gift to keep him protected from other ninja including Madara who wanted him dead or to use his clan’s special ability the sharingan (explained in one of my previous reviews on the other mangas I read) which was the Amaterasu a special jutsu that creates black flames to completely burn any who oppose you. He dies leaving his brother to be the only surviving Uchiha besides Madara Uchiha.

He's got a wild sense of humor, but Naruto is completely serious about his mission to be the world's greatest ninja! SENJUTSU HEIR Naruto must decipher the cryptic last words of his beloved mentor. What did Jiraiya find out about the leader of the Akatsuki that was so important he had to hide it in code? And can Naruto stand a fighting chance against those who managed to take down one of the Three Great Shinobi? MY OPINION As the word of Jiraiya's death is finally relayed to Naruto, the boy feels overwhelmed with grief, and has anger towards Lady Tsunade for letting Jiraiya go into such a dangerous situation because he knows Jiraiya would have never let Tsunade do it. As Naruto takes some time to grieve the loss of his mentor, Tsunade starts the ball rolling on the interrogation of a Amegakure village shinobi and the autopsy on one of Pain's bodies. When Shikamaru manages to pull Naruto out of his funk, Naruto begins to attempt to decipher the code left by master Jiraiya. But among all the numbers he finds a strange symbol at the beginning. The symbol for the TA, which they quickly link to Tactics, as in Make-Out Tactics, the book Jiraiya made Naruto proof-read when they were on the road. They quickly figure the numbers to be page numbers and manage to put together the message: "The real one's not among them." And they can only begin to guess what this means. Meanwhile, Sasuke and The Taka are now joined with the Akatsuki and head out to track down the Eight Tail's Jinchuriki host, while Madara and the remaining Akatsuki begin the hunt for Naruto. But Naruto has gone to Mt. Myoboku to learn the secrets of the Sage Jutsu that Jiraiya used against Pain. But the thing is that use of the Sage Jutsu can sometimes make the user take on a toad-like appearance. And if Naruto turns completely into a toad, he'll be stuck that way! Quote: "This ain't no whack-a-mole game! You're supposed to be trainin'!"
