Spideyyy! Tentokrát se kromě akčních scén řeší hlavně odvrácená strana Petera Parkera - a je to super.

Totalmente recomendable.

I have to be honest: after the previus entry by Straczynski I had very low espectations with this one. However it struck me with a heartfelt story, a great lesson about trust. Curiously enough, all the “superhero stuff” embedded with the dramatic story was of vastly inferior quality (the mystical villain and the new doctor octopus felt like fillers). It is well worth its value for the aunt May and the destitute child tales.

Classic Spidey vibe in stories ... with added extras of Aunt May finding the Spidey costume and connecting it to Peter. Some good villains. Beautifully coloured.

It's a solid 3.5/5 Well, this book started where the last had left us, with aunt May finding out that (spoiler) Peter Parker is Spider-Man(WHAT) which gave us one of the most human, sincere and almost heart-breaking talks on secret identities, the people around them And how to deal with them. Besides the emotional talk, JMS gets who Spidey is, getting the characterization right in every way, And making Spidey who he is, the smart And funny man who never stops fighting for the ones he loves. But There aren't only roses and all the villains and said "master plans" are pretty forgettable. Although it isn't the very best on Spider-man it is still a great story with some moments that should have stayed with Spidey's stories over the years (Looking at you "One More Day") and full of what makes Spider-man one of the most relatable heroes out there.

In terms of super-hero comics and trade paperback collections, this is about as good as good as it gets, with superb stories by J. Romita's artwork for this run is amongst the best he's ever done, with a very slim, lythe version of Spider-Man and some full page illustrations that knock your socks off. All-in-all, a delight to read. This graphic novel and individual issues of Spider-Man are available from http://internet-comics.ebid.net

I gave up reading Spider-Man (and comics) before Straczynski took up the reins for the comic. Now I wish I hadn't because I've always been impressed with his writing (really liked Babylon 5) and his different approach to story telling. For example, this book is a collection of the original comics which, instead of being based around a confrontation with an epic villain, is based on Peter Parker getting some resolution in his relationship with the two most important women in his life (his Aunt May I gave up reading Spider-Man (and comics) before Straczynski took up the reins for the comic. Not that there isn't plenty of action in the story, but Straczynski's handling of the revelation and consequences of the big secret Peter's being keeping from his Aunt is very well done, and definitely about time after forty years. Glad I finally read them.

I am a little surprised that Goodreads only seems to have this one combined edition of these two story arcs; personally I read them as two separate TPBs, albeit within a few days of each other. These are the first story arcs that I have read by Straczynski, and I have to admit that the writing is absolutely first class. It is well known amongst those who regularly read graphic novels how good the writing in them can be, and Straczynski is right up there with the best that I have read.
