A secluded lake house with a dark history, a rock star and a sheltered young woman spend the weekend together – what could possibly happen? Darling Roberts is going back to the lake house her mother disappeared from thirteen years ago. She needs to decide to stay or sell. The locals believe the place cursed, but her best friend thinks it would be a blast to spend the weekend there before heading to Europe. BFF Madison is determined to set Darling up even if that means dragging a recently widowed rock-and-roll drummer to the scene of a murder. Ross Daniels has a secret. He can’t stand the pitying looks well-wishers have given him since his wife’s accidental death. The European leg of the Becket tour can’t come soon enough. A weekend stay at a mutual friend’s lake house seems like a decent way to kill a couple of days before hopping a plane, a least until he spends some time with temptation herself. Passions ignite and Ross feels his heart beginning to beat again. Darling isn’t who he thought she was and he can’t get enough of her sweet soul and lush curves. Darling is determined to take charge of her life and the lake house is just the place to begin. Ross is a scrumptious distraction but she knows she has to keep things in perspective. Why would a world famous drummer want to hang out with her in a small town that even the locals want her run out of?

Darling’s Desire, by T. D. Hassett, was sent to me for an honest review. Thank you, Tiffany, for sharing your enjoyable story with me. This is the third installment of the Love and Music series. Darling’s Desire is charming and I finished the story in one day. Darling, the protagonist, is a sweet and shy young lady who is not experienced with the opposite sex. Ross, the male lead, is a drummer for a popular band. Darling is lunching with her college friend, Madison (from Love and Music #2), when Madison’s husband, Link, and his fellow band member, Ross, join the girls at the restaurant. Madison plays matchmaker and schemes to throw Darling and Ross together, and so they all end up staying in Darling’s house for the weekend. After the weekend, Madison and Link fly to Europe to go on tour, but there is a mix-up and Ross stays behind with Darling. Things warm up between Darling and Ross while some very strange occurrences surrounding the house take place. And so the romance begins; it is lovely to watch the characters develop and see them grow into a solid couple. Darling’s Desire is an entertaining, light read for anyone who likes contemporary romance with a bit of mystery. The main characters are sure to please, there is minimal angst, and you are sure to smile throughout the read.

She's a teacher, but would rather create recipes and write cookbooks. Her musician boyfriend dumped her, preferring nights with groupies instead of a relationship. She decides to spend some time at her grandmother's lake house, to make some decisions about her life path and to get the house ready to put up for sale. And maybe get some answers regarding her mother's disappearance from that house almost a decade earlier, and the two mysterious deaths that have occurred in recent months. As if all that's not enough, one of her temporary visitors, Ross, a bandmate of her best friend's husband, steps in as her protector (and love interest) when strange things start happening at the house and putting Darling in danger. I had high hopes for this book. I am a big fan of the romantic suspense/romantic mystery genre, so the blurb had me excited. Unfortunately, I think this would have worked better if it were strictly a romance, or if more attention was paid to the mystery. The dangerous events were devices to put Darling and Ross in situations that advanced their relationship and their feelings for one another - okay, no problem, that is a common plot device. However, nothing about those events gave you any clues as to the perpetrator or his/her motive(s). And no one seemed to care about how indifferent the police were about all these threats - if Ross was so worried about Darling's safety, why wasn't he raising holy hell that the cops weren't doing anything? Similarly, Ross has no problem throwing around his rock star money for every other thing under the sun, big or small, so I had a hard time believing that he didn't try to hire a private investigator, or pay to have a security system or security team at the house to find out who was behind everything. I felt like the mystery was an afterthought; once the relationship aspect of the book was settled, all the reveals regarding Darling's mother, the two deaths and the other malicious acts were dumped on you in the book's last chapter, like the author was trying to tie up all the loose ends in a neat bow in those last few pages before the epilogue. If I were to base it on the romance alone, I enjoyed the story for the most part. The jumping of conclusions that led to the final conflict between Ross and Darling had kind of a "been there, done that" feel to it, but there are only so many plot twists under the sun. I liked the author's writing style, though, and would consider reading more of her work. I give this book three fangs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story was entertaining, had a bit of mystery and intrigue, a rock band that was established and settled, and a great little romance. Darling (yes, that's her real name - BTW, I love that) has decided to take the summer to find herself and decide her course in life at the home she inherited from her grandma on the lake. She's telling this to her BFF Madison over lunch. Madison's husband (Link) meets them there and brings along Ross (the drummer in the band). Ma I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Madison is determined to spend the weekend at the lake house with Darling before the band starts their European tour in a few weeks. Once she convinces Link and subsequently Ross gets on board, they head out to the lake house. When it's time for her guests to leave, we learn that there is a problem with Ross' visa so he has to stay behid with Darling until he's cleared to fly out of the country. There is attraction, denial and chemistry between Darling and Ross almost immediately. She's a bit inexperienced with men and doesn't want anything to do with ANOTHER musician. He's several years older and is not looking for a relationship, but is fascinated by Darling. Strange things start happening at and to the house which appear to be deliberate and the police are called out repeatedly. The police are chalking it up to local teenagers, but Ross isn't buying that story and his protectiveness over Darling Rears its head. It was delightful to watch their closeness and attraction grow. There was an angsty couple of pages, but I was grateful it wasn't dragged out for the sake of more pages. It was perfectly placed and the timing of the entire book was spot on. This is book 3, but I'll have to go back and pick up the others as I liked this one so much. It can be read as a stand alone. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a smile in their heart. T.D. Hassett has done it again! Darling's Desire is the third book in her trilogy that includes Isabel's Awakening and Loving Link. Darling's Desire is not only romantic, but packed with mystery. Imagine staying at the family lake house that is well shrouded in trees and shadows; a place the townsfolk call "cursed". Well, why not, after all Darling's mother disappeared from the lake house 13 years ago leaving no trace and then more recently Grandma takes a "fall" off the balcony of the house to her death. Darling's father, heartbroken after his wife's disappearance refuses to set foot in the house. Darling believes that the lake holds many secrets to her family's past and, thus, is aptly named Secret Lake. But now she must go back to the lake house and decide to sell, or to plant her roots. Who better to help her decide than her best friend Madison who brings along husband-rock star, Link, baby, and recently-widowed Becket drummer, and cowboy, Ross. If anyone can liven up the quick reprieve before going on the Becket European tour it's Madison who is quick-witted, fun and a great confidant for Darling. Ms Hassett has again spent time developing her characters to the fullest. Take for instance Ross. He's no ordinary drummer, or cowboy. He is an intelligent voracious reader, packed with common sense, sadness and sensitivity. All the characters are endearing in the beginning but as the plot thickens it's left to you to decide who among the characters are actually Darling's supporters. This is T.D. Hassett's first romantic mystery. I would like to see her continue to write this style of book. She's good at it. I thought I had the mystery solved, but then she threw in a twist and I had to reconsider who or what might have raised havoc with her family.

A cute romance with mystery stirred in. Loved the intrigue involved with the cursed lake house. Thought it was great Darling was going back before deciding to sell it. Drooled over Ross and loved his brooding way, especially as it mellowed. Interesting twists with the visa, keys, and relatives. It never stated it, but I felt David must've known all along. Read this book straight through instead of doing household chores while my husband was at work today. I definitely made out on this deal! ARC A cute romance with mystery stirred in.
