*received for free through Goodreads First Reads An informative cookbook that provided a lot of information about sugar content in foods and how to eat healthier. I particularly liked that lists of what not to buy and what to buy instead, as well as the breakfast shakes section.

There is some good stuff in here if you're looking to cut out sugar from your diet. She gives good info in the beginning about how sugar in foods affect our body, and the plan outlines phases to help taper off the bad stuff. Plus there is a very detailed plan, and a good resource section at the back. Some of the recipes, especially for the main courses, look appealing and straightforward. My two big issues with this book are 1) the layout of the recipes is clunky; they aren't one-per-page, so most end up breaking mid-recipe and require a page turn to continue. Awkward. 2) Erythritol? Xylitol? Monk fruit extract? What makes these better than other sugars?

Despite the cheesy cover, the vegetarian recipes provided are very tasty! (Not all recipes are vegetarian, however.) Some may find the comments on food intolerances useful.

Most of the diet plan's crutial information is condensed in the beginning of the cook book and so the plan is easy to start. What Virgin brings to the table is a solid diet plan, an upbeat but never saccharine writing style, and a sensible, no-nonsense approach to good health. The book breaks down as follows: Part 1: Understanding Sugar Impact (Not all sugar is created equal, The sugar impact plate, Setting up your sugar impact kitchen); Part 2: Sugar Impact Diet Recipes (shakes and breakfasts, wraps, salads, and sandwiches, snacks, mains, soups and stews, sides, sauces, rubs, and dressings, Desserts); Part 3: the Sugar Impact Diet Meal Plans (The basics, Diabetes and insulin resistance, Gastrointestinal healing, Paleo and low carb, Vegan and vegetarians); Conclusion, Resources, Converting to metrics, References. So why the Sugar Impact diet? It all comes down to hidden sugars that are causing cravings, packing on weight, and causing unhealthy conditions. Most of the recipes break down to whole or organic foods taking the place of processed or high sugary foods (from fruits like apples to mustard). Most of the meal plans aim to bring down added sugar and slow down the metabolism/digestion. The recipes are easy to follow and surprisingly easy to make. There are very few exotic recipes; mostly we have staples that are recreating using much healthier ingredients. From turkey bean chili to beef bourguignon, braised leeks to easy lemon vinaigrette, strawberry ice cream to various morning protein shakes. In addition to the sugar impact diet plan, optional paleo, vegan, diabetes, and gastrointestinal healing plans are also included. The resources in the back has recommendations on products Virgin uses and the introduction sections has shopping suggestions and lists to make setting up the plan easy. The book has a good balance of useful information to ease of use/reading. It's a 20 minute read at most but has all the needed information (including cheerleading and motivation) to get a healthier diet and lifestyle going - starting with the first two weeks. In all, highly recommended. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

I received JJ Virgin's Sugar Impact Diet Cookbook as part of a Goodreads giveaway. First off, I'm a girl with a sweet tooth. I know this, use restraint when I can, work out regularly, and in sum, I'm not extremely concerned about dramatically reducing my sugar intake. That said, even for us sugar babies, this is a worthy cookbook packed with simple, healthy recipes. The presentation is attractive, though I wish there was more photography. The recipes themselves are great in that they don't require many ingredients, and those that they do are widely available and won't break the bank if you don't already have them in your kitchen. The seafood recipes are all tantalizing (if only I lied closer to a coast!) , and the quinoa pasta alla checca sounds incredible, as do the vinaigrettes, cilantro pesto, and pumpkin bread pudding. I'll be breaking this one out soon for make-ahead dinner entrees.

I won this book via Goodreads Firstreads Giveaway. I received a hard cover copy of this book. You should consult your family physician before committing 100% to this diet. Any physician worth their weight will say the amount of weight loss in this time period is to drastic. The introduction does give sufficient background information. The recipes are varied in selection. They may need to be tweaked due to allergies and your personally tastes. Impact your body, positively! I have been interested in this area of the food trap for some years. Just prior to obtaining this book I watched JJ on a TV show waxing lyrical about the dangers of sugar and it's impact on the body. She's very dynamic and very committed to her message, that's for sure. I was sold on the theory and this very timely book gave me the practical steps to guide me through the maze of sugar surprises out there. Recommended for all who need to confront the sugar blues! This book has a lot of useful information regarding sugar and how you can easily reduce your sugar intake and be healthier. This book came to me at the perfect time, as I have been researching this topic for health reasons. A few cool new things I learned about in this book and want to try are: Malaysian red palm fruit oil, monk fruit, coconut oil, coconut kefir, coconut wraps, and coconut aminos. I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

Great book that explains the basics of reducing your sugar intake. A lot of the information wasn't new to me as I have been gradually changing the way I eat for several months now. I found that the book had some great recipes! Tried a few tonight and everyone enjoyed them. Not looking to lose weight but rather change how my family and I eat and I definitely think this book will help.
