The Hulk is arguably the hardest Marvel character to write for. And here proves no exception, there are some great moments, including the iconic Black Bolt stand off but it doesn't match Peter David or Greg Paks work on the character. To write a good Hulk tail you have to explore the character whereas here it was a series of action shots and the same thought for the Hulk throughout. It's understandable why this is a character who has been in and out of fashion and having his own title so many times since his inception. A major positive though is the art, it still looks impressive, even more so when you take into account that this was from trailblazer Marie Severin who was helping to break down the gender stereotypes in comics.

Another group of old school Hulk comics. It's enjoyable to read the old stuff and even better that the art is actually done by a female artist, which was rare in those days and in a ratio even now, it seems more male dominated in the comic book world. Some stories are better than the others. The annual that concludes the graphic novel where our misunderstood gargantuan meets the Inhumans is one of the stand outs of the collection. It's an ideal collection as it really does delve into the Hulk's simple yet tortured psyche, but other than that it's just another collection from the Marvel archives.

Includes Tales to Astonish #101, The Incredible Hulk #102-108 and Hulk Annual #1. Main value is the run of Marie Severin from TA #101 to Hulk #106 as artist. And the first appearances of The Missing Link and The Space Parasite (a particularly ugly villain) There is no overarching story and the anthology includes participation of Stan Lee, Gary Friedrich, Archie Goodwin, Bill Everett and Roy Thomas. It has the writers testing the limits of Hulk's power and strength as he goes up against Asgard ( ate Includes Tales to Astonish #101, The Incredible Hulk #102-108 and Hulk Annual #1. Grab bag of stories from the Hulk’s second go at headlining his own title. Annoyingly bitty and lacking the energy of Kirby or weirdness of Ditko – in fact I often found the art dragging the stories down. And in all honesty the stories aren’t particularly memorable in the first place. One of those volumes that seems to exist because of the character’s significance rather than any historical merit.

Nothing special here. Just a collection of old Hulk issues that culminates in the Hulk meeting the Inhumans and him foiling a plot by Maximus the Mad. Pretty standard stuff, Im afraid. One for the collectors.
