30 review for Marvel Origins: The 70s

Not as good as the 60's origins. Still good nostalgia.

A second grab bag of origin stories; these from Marvel’s second decade proper. If nothing else it illustrates how difficult it is to come up with a good concept as most of these heroes are strictly second tier characters; Luke Cage, Iron Fist, She-Hulk, Spider-Woman, Captain Britain, Nova and Warlock have limited recognition value beyond comic nerds. The only exception is Wolverine and, as with the likes of She-Hulk and Captain Britain, much of what made him interesting came from later writers w A second grab bag of origin stories; these from Marvel’s second decade proper. The only exception is Wolverine and, as with the likes of She-Hulk and Captain Britain, much of what made him interesting came from later writers who found new and interesting things to do with him. Really it’s a mundane collection often clearly derivative of cultural trends of the decade that goes to prove that in a collaborative medium origin stories are often the least interesting thing about characters.

A good collection none really stand out and Wolverine's first appearance has probably been read a dozen times or more (not saying that it's a bad thing I re-read it in this collection). The art work on the debut of Nova is pretty nice and does stand out though. But here is more of a collection of Marvel's B- listers I suppose, Spider-Woman, Nova, Captain Britain, She-Hulk, Iron Fist etc all good in their own merits though.

3.5 to 4 as a rating. I hadn't read most of these stories before, so it was good to finally read the origins of some of these characters. Your mileage may differ.
