Like all RKB anthologies this one has a pretty big array of different types of stories. Only one of which that I actually skimmed through. 'If By Ocean', which is about love with a merman. Sorry, I'm just not a fan of creature stuff. There are f/f, f/m/m/m and f/m/m/m/m stories within this anthologies. Anal play, gang bangs, revenge sex, sex with strangers, BDSM, and sex at work. To name just a few. To read more reviews check out MI Book Reviews I got an ARC of this book. I have to say I was a bit surprised when Cleis asked me to review modern erotica. I like historical erotica. I like learning about sexuality. I like knowing where terms came from and how long people have been doing what they have been doing. Modern erotica often bores me. I am asexual and the idea of being sexually attracted to someone is so foreign to me. I just don't get it. So often times modern erotica is just eh.  This collection is some of the best erotica I have read. It is no historical erotica though. There were no long philosophical rants in the middle of random sex scenes. To some, the lack of rants might make everything better. The collection was well written and diverse in content. I would have been beyond bored if it was just vanilla or just kink. Instead Bussel did a great job of curating a collection that was drastically different story to story. It kept me engaged in a way that modern erotica hasn't been able to do before (well, not since I was 14 years old and just discovering Cleis press and butch/butch erotica in a womyn's only bookstore in a super queer town when I was just coming to terms with being trans).  Some of my standards for good erotica include: safety, consent, and is it physical possible?  Safety was addressed multiple times. Not every story had a section about condom use, but enough did that I was satisfied. The scenes with strangers almost always had a condom, that was enough. Using a condom at all is so rare in erotica or romance novels that I have to give credit when any are used. I can ignore that many of the condoms came out of wallets (please, do not store your condoms in a wallet. It is not good for the condoms). The way condoms were portrayed is almost good enough for me to ignore inconsistent condom usage within the same story. Some couples would use condoms for vaginal penetration only. Oral sex carries all the same STI risks! Dental dams were never used. The day I find an erotica with a dental dam used is the day I can celebrate. I would also like to add there was a scene that was downright dangerous in so many ways, but it was also one of my favorite scenes. Something about a circus makes things more intriguing. Did I mention I was a party clown? Overall, all of the stories had consent, but one. There were multiple stories where consent was played with in a way that was wonderful. There was clear longing and the consent was added as a form of play. Consent being a form of play is wonderful to me. The added arousal from permission given is one of my favorite things in erotica. You can say that consent is a kink of mine. The one story that didn't have consent is more complicated. The woman gave verbal consent, but to a man that had abused her to the point that she attempted to kill him. I can't find the premise sexy. If the backstory hadn't been literal abuse, the story would have been incredibly strong and unique in the way the actual erotic part of it went down. That story took a full star off of my review. All of my other issues are really minor and because I love to over analyze sex. Getting back with an abusive ex is a big no from me though. Just red flags and hard limit.  Physically possible is vague. Having sex with a mermaid is not physically possible, but I AM HERE FOR IT. I am talking about was lube used for anal sex? Was there actual stretching done? Were bodies positioned in a way that allowed that activity to happen? So most of the stories where physically possible! That is something I am really impressed with. There was one scene where I either missed a page or someone was fisted really quickly and with no stretching. There was another scene where he was behind her and she was leaned over a work table, but somehow his balls hit her ass? That one I am still trying to understand just based on some sex ed 101 stuff. Did I mention I teach sex ed?  Overall, this was a fantastic read. I would recommend just skipping the opening section of one story to avoid the abuse plot line. Otherwise the stories are wonderfully diverse and engaging. There is everything from swinging to gang bangs to queer scenes. There is a little something for most people (I can't wait to read trans male erotica from Cleis).

I really enjoyed this set of short stories. There is definitely something for everyone. From porn stars to mermaids - yep, mermaids. These authors bring you a range of erotica you didn't even know existed. Sierra Simone's story was a stand out for me and I also loved the CD Reiss contribution. One thing I love about these is the opportunity to find new to me authors to follow into other stories. Will definitely keep an eye out for Volume 6. I received an arc of this book

This collection includes twenty-one sensuous stories that include BDSM, toys, multiple partners, different sexual orientations, aerial sex, and historical, contemporary, and futuristic settings. The variety makes this collection special. Some of the characters are simply seeking pleasure, while others desire love and commitment. My favorites are as follows: “At the Pleasure of the President” by Sabrina Sol displays the needs of the first female president, which may jeopardize her reelection campa This collection includes twenty-one sensuous stories that include BDSM, toys, multiple partners, different sexual orientations, aerial sex, and historical, contemporary, and futuristic settings. The variety makes this collection special. Some of the characters are simply seeking pleasure, while others desire love and commitment. My favorites are as follows: “At the Pleasure of the President” by Sabrina Sol displays the needs of the first female president, which may jeopardize her reelection campaign. The strong lead character drew me in. “Outlaws” by Angel Leigh McCoy creates a futuristic world where release becomes a clinical and sterile undertaking, and the pleasures of humor touch is forbidden. The science fiction elements and world building are fantastic. In “Nymph and Satyr” by Justine Elyot, a woman finds inspiration and unlocks her sexual mojo in a sculpture garden. I loved seeing a middle aged woman get her groove back. The protagonist in “After Midnight” by Balli Kaur Jaswal is a former exotic dancer trying to transition into working as a phone sex operator. The Indian culture makes this an exotic and rich read. “Frosting” by Kathleen Delaney-Adams involves a cupcake shop’s potential new client, who puts all the workers to the test. Watching the protagonist lose control of her business meeting makes for a sugary treat. In “Vintage Treasures” by Angora Shade, new home owners put a box of goodies left from the previous owner to good use. I loved the playfulness between the couple and their desire to spice up their marriage. The range of this sensuous short stories collection ensures a sexy tale for every taste. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks to the NetGalley and Cleis Press for providing an Advance Reader Copy.

What are you in the mood for tonight? Go ahead and pick a quick bedtime story to keep you warm. There was quite a variety to choose from- some ff, some mfmm, a mermaid, a historical, some bdsm. I'd say I was into most of it. The great thing about steamy short stories is if one isn't your thing, you can just turn the page til you find one that tickles your fancy. There's somethin here for everyone. And even a couple I thought I wouldn't be into but was.

Honestly, I don’t think Rachel Kramer Bussel could put together a less than stellar erotic anthology. The woman has a knack for finding quality content, and volume five of Best Women’s Erotica of the Year is no exception. The theme this time around is “Totally Outrageous”. Each story features a strong female character who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to make it happen, in or out of the bedroom. With today’s current (deplorable) political climate, reading about badass, sexy chicks taking charge of their own pleasure makes my little feminist heart sing. Of the 21 sexy tales, I enjoyed most, but four in particular pushed all my buttons: 1. “After Midnight” by Balli Kaur Jaswal - I hate to sound simplistic, but WOW! Balli Kaur Jaswal captured my heart and my imagination with her richly developed character Rika. Caught in a world where men are in charge, Rika turns from conquered to conqueror, and we readers have the privilege of witnessing her metamorphosis. 2. “Just Inappropriate” by Alexa J. Day – Age Play is a genre I usually shy away from, but Alexa J. Day won me over with this one. A deftly woven story, I felt like I was inside the mind of the female lead, and it made the story all the more intriguing. 3. “The Summer of 1669” by Jayne Renault – I am still trying to figure out how in the hell this smutty sorceress packed an entire novel into a short story! Maybe I don’t really want to know her secrets, though. Maybe I’d rather just enjoy the ride. Steeped in well-researched history, Jayne Renault knocked me on my ass with this epic work. 4. “Vintage Treasures” by Angora Shade – having worked with Angora, I am very familiar with her crazy ability to tell a fascinating story, and this one did not disappoint. When a young couple finds a chest full of vintage sex toys in the basement of their newly purchased home, sexy things happen, and I could read about six (or a hundred) more stories featuring these characters. Best Women’s Erotica of the Year Volume Five is a hands down winner, and I give it five, shining stars. If you’re looking for unique & HAWT erotica featuring consent, diversity and just good fun, look no further. Rachel Kramer Bussel’s got you covered!

I've read every volume of Rachel Kramer Bussel's "Best Women's Erotica of the year" series so far, and [although volume #3 gets re-read frequently] I've got to say that the series keeps getting better and better. I was pleasantly surprised to read Sierra Simone's story "Terms", as Ms. Simone is the author of my favorite book in the "Misadventures" series ["Misadventures of a Curvy Girl"]... but for me personally, Joanna Angel's contribution [the title of which I won't write here, in case GoodReads has a problem with it] is the unexpected surprise of the book. After I finished reading that story, I couldn't help but hope that Ms. Angel contributes more pieces to this series in the future. (There are also outstanding stories by writers whose works I was a bit more familiar with, like CD Reiss and Emerald.) As a longtime fan of the genre [and of Ms. Kramer Bussel's anthologies in particular], I can't recommend Volume 5 highly enough... I hope there will be a volume 6 in the future.

The publisher sent a copy of Volume 5 to me in exchange for an honest review and I was so excited to see the stories in this year’s volume as the authors tackled the theme “Outrageous.” There are 21 stories by different authors in this collection and I always recommend this series to readers who are new to the erotica or romantic erotica genre. You can get a taste of different writing styles, story scenarios, and pairings to gauge what you might like to read more of. I felt like there was a bit wider range of storytelling and writing styles in this collection from previous volumes, and because of this I had a wider range of really liking some stories, while not finishing others beyond the set up. There are five stories that I’d like to share here. Nymph & Satyr by Justine Elyot A museum setting with a M/F pairing and an older sex interest character, I was really into the hook-up of the story. It was raw and realistically erotic. The ending had a cute tie-up as well. If the Ocean by Loretta Black This story was my favorite in the collection, but I love anything that captures a magic realism feel. This story was visceral, somatic, magical, mournful, and fulfilling all at once! The Summer of 1669 by Jayne Renault ln this story I enjoyed the tight interweaving of history, spirituality, and enduring human longing for light (and eroticism) that brought these characters together. Vintage Treasures by Angora Shade This story has a lovely domestic set up: a married couple in a new house discovering the titled Vintage Treasures in the basement. A comfort read with familiar intimacy, natural chemistry, and wild playfulness. One Last Gang Bang by Joanna Angel This story was great smut and I loved the incorporation of porn, sexual fantasy, and confidence of the heroine. A great way to explore those gang bang fantasies and explore how porn might also be a way to explore this and other sexual fantasies in an empowering way. Overall this collection is varied, smutty, empowering, and a lovely addition to the BWE series. I’m looking forward to future installments. I reviewed this book om my blog The Unlaced Librarian: http://www.theunlacedlibrarian.com/bl...

    Reflections of a Swede

This is an anthology with bite-sized erotic stories meant for women. The stories are all very well written and there's a vast array of erotic tastes represented. Which is perhaps the problem. I enjoyed less than half of the stories. And some of them I found even nasty. But I suppose that's the trouble with trying to please everyone. In doing so, nobody gets what they want. I don't consider my taste in erotica to be vanilla. But even so, there were several off-putting stories. From this collection, This is an anthology with bite-sized erotic stories meant for women. But even so, there were several off-putting stories. From this collection, I've learned that I don't like men wearing lingerie, I don't find lesbian encounters erotic (TBH, I knew that already), I most definitely prefer both involved parties to be human, and I find absolutely no allure in so-called slave-master relationships. Also, another discovery is that I actually found most stories (that I did enjoy) too short to be able to appreciate them fully. Of course, this is a collection of short-stories. But still, there has to be enough build-up and time for the reader to familiarise themselves with the characters before going wham-bam. It's a delicate balance that isn't easy to achieve. There need to be a back-story and some context, but just the right amount. So, I'm obviously not the target reader for this anthology. But I find it hard to believe that any one person would enjoy the immense span of kinks represented in Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 5. Either way, it's still without a doubt a high quality collection with quality writing and story-telling. For me, that elevates my grade to a solid three, even though content-wise I would give it a two. https://reflectionsofaswedishgirl.blo...

This collection of steamy erotic short stories is not for the faint-hearted. Each tale is different from the next and includes some scenes that are quite descriptive. You will find a variety of sex including fantasy, political, BDSM, and mermaid (Yes you read that right) Some of it was a little too weird or bizarre which prevented me from connecting with the characters and their story. My favorite submission was from Sierra Simone. Thank you, NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

5/5 - this is an excellent group of erotica stories. Each story offers something different. From politicians, art lovers, porn stars addiction, and even a mermaid, they all stimulate the senses. I just finished Best Women’s Erotica of the Year Volume 5 edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel. I found the short stories to be too short be truly erotic as I felt I needed more story. Saying that I had my favourites Outlaws, if the Ocean, Broken thing fixed, Dancing with myself and Vintage Treasures. As people have said before me there is a short story for everyone. There is erotica of every genre.

You’ll be swept away by the sexiest business deal ever, break the rules in a future world where skin on skin contact is forbidden, and discover the art of getting off by phone sex. From threesomes to mermaid sex, fetishes, sex parties, and much more, these authors steam up the pages with tales of trysts, love, and lust where nothing is held back. With new stories by beloved authors including Joanna Angel, Balli Kaur Jaswal, CD Reiss, Sierra Simone, and Sabrina Sol, along with newcomers to the genre, you’ll savor every sizzling page. Sierra Simone’s “Terms” should be made into a full-length book. Oh my goodness this story is hot. It has drama, intensity, and of course sex (laugh). Simone manages to pack a past, present, and future all into a short story. It really wanted me craving more just as Sarah did. I will say that this is a poly story - one of my faves being a poly girl myself. There is also a switch in the dominance dynamics, but not enough to get most women fans to be turned off. So now who do we beg for a full-length version of this story? “Frosting” by Kathleen Delaney-Adams is (sigh) completely lickable (yes, I had to go there (laugh)). It takes place in a bakery and let me just say that I will never quite look at Crisco in the same way again. Estelle, ahhhh, Estelle...once you start reading about her you know someone just has to mess her up a bit. Then comes in the lovely lady Olivia to do the job in a very interesting way. I will say when the call comes, I wanted to be there for round two so I hope we see Delaney-Adams again and I will even bring the cupcakes. When I started reading “Spin”, I realized this was not my first time up in the sling with the ladies (I just re-read that - too funny). There was a movie about a sling artist falling in love. In the movie, the ladies did not do what Lauren Emily had them do and damn I wish they had. Emily provides a hot performance and to read that she spins herself. I have to confess, I now want to know if she tried the scenes herself first (giggle). Soraya and Chloe are mesmerizing together and I want more. I want to know the rest of the story. (Sigh) It was a really good scene. If you’re looking to escape from the everyday and discover what happens when women are ready to get totally outrageous, this book is for you. ✶✶✶✶ I received an ARC of this book from A Novel Take Promotions and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.

Kramer-Bussel's curation of these anthologies, particularly the Best Women's Erotica of the Year series, is what really makes them sing. The collections are diverse in both authorship and content and while most readers won't love every story, there's something for everyone in them--as with most anthologies. They're also loosely organized around a theme, this time it's "Outrageous." These books aren't cheap, but wow have I stumbled across a lot of poorly written stuff on Amazon. I've picked up a few on sale, too. And if you're reading this in December 2019, we're running a giveaway! Head down to the end of the post for the link. So this time the author lineup is: Sierra Simone Alexa J. Day Sabrina Sol Angel Leigh McCoy Justine Elyot Balli Kaur Jaswal Kathleen Delaney-Adams Lee Minxton Loretta Black Something New The Summer of 1669 Broken Thing Fixed One Interpretation A. Zimmerman Quinn LeStrange Angora Shade A.Z. Louise Caridad Piñeiro CD Reiss Joanna Angel Lauren Emily I was going to go into a few of the standout stories, tell you what was fun about them... but that's so subjective that I'm not sure it'd be of much value. There are mixed pairings, with some group scenes and solo activities. Erotica doesn't follow romance beats and you shouldn't expect an HEA. Some of the stories are about established relationships, some about something new, some are about a fleeting encounter. They're not all explicitly consensual, though most are. For example, in a story about a group scene in a cupcake shop, the boss and a client are getting it on right in full view of all the employees, who eventually get into their own scene, but there's no discussion of consent. Because this is erotica and the rules are different. But in another story, a man and his nonbinary partner who are in a long-term relationship engage in sex featuring humiliation kink, and it's been negotiated in the past. Anyway, the anthology is great and you can skip around to different stories to find what works for you. The book releases on December 10th and I have a print copy courtesy of the editor to give away! You should know that I also got a digital review copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Being outrageous is the theme of Rachel Kramer Bussel's latest book in her Best Women's Erotica of the Year series, and it delivers, at least for the most part. With any anthology, for any individual reader, there will be some hits and some misses. The 5 star rating I gave the book are for the stories that rang my own particular bell. For myself, the best of those stories rang with crystal clarity. I particularly enjoyed Sabrina Sol's 'At The Pleasure of The President.' which features a widowed first term woman President becoming much closer with her Vice-President on the eve of her 2nd term re-election day. Hot stuff! One thing that the stories all shared was that were all well written and well edited. It's a delight these days to see anything in this genre that rises to the professional level that once was the norm. Back in the days when words needed to be typeset, printed on paper, and bound into books, you really needed to make sure things were correct because you didn't get a do-over. At least not until the second edition, but then that was embarrassing. Any mistakes in the first edition just sat out there forever. I think readers will enjoy reading this collection, be it in e-book or print version. I know I did.

The theme of this erotica anthology is "outrageous", and on this word alone, I'd say this collection delivers. There are 21 short stories in here, each of them drastically different but all linked by that one word. Each story is short enough to read in a quickie, but long enough that it satisfies. Because each story is unrelated to the others in the book, this is a good book to read in bursts. One story here, two stories there. Because each story is unrelated to the others in the book, this is a good book to read in bursts. One story here, two stories there. This collection does a really good job with inclusivity and diversity. There are people of color represented here, as well as people with disabilities, of a number of body types, and of multiple age groups. There's also LGBT and gender inclusivity here, including non-binary characters. Not only people, but kinks as well. There's all sorts of eroticism featured here, from hardcore BDSM to bondage to age play, to voyeurism, and a whole bunch in between. Because there's such a wide variety of stories and authors here, if I were reviewing each story individually, the ratings would be everything from a 1/5 to a 5/5. I'm not partial to stories written in first person. Some were too rushed. Some didn't sell me on being sexy and came off forced. Some had kinks that I just don't want any part in, and some had vibes that I thought seemed creepy or coercive. On the other side of the same coin, some of the stories are beautifully weaved with sexy language. They have kinks that are right up my alley with words that I love and scenes that I'd love to be a part of. They have unique concepts and take their few pages of space in this book and create something fantastic. My point mainly being, that there'll certainly be something in here for you, even if you don't enjoy each and every story. For me, the good outweighed the not so good, and just because I didn't like it, doesn't mean it won't be the thing that drives you crazy. I won't be reviewing all 21 stories, nor will I be harping on which ones I didn't like. Instead, I'm going to touch on the three stories that I liked best. These are in no particular order. The first story I feel is worth highlighting is "The Summer of 1669" by Jayne Renault. If the title wasn't a dead giveaway, it's a historic erotica. In a pleasant surprise to me, the couple featured in this story is two women. It largely takes place in a memory, of a time spent on a ship on its way over from Europe to the New Colonies of America. It's a bit taboo, a lot erotic, and being LGBT myself, the fact that it's F/F was lovely. It's sensually written in a romanticized way, while still being plenty dirty. The next story that I liked is called "If the Ocean" by Loretta Black. It too features a couple that is two females. It also has historic imagery (I guess I'm pretty predictable, eh?). The story occurs when a woman happens across a mermaid. Yes, a mermaid. The book promises outrageousness, does it not? Loretta Black does a really good job here of balancing the sexy elements with pretty imagery and vocabulary that make it seem like it should be part of a larger work (which I'd read tf out of, if you're reading this!). The last one, and possibly my favorite one, is the last story of the book, called "Spin" by Lauren Emily. It's an exception to my "I don't like the first person narrative" rule. It's also, I just now realize, yet another F/F erotica. This is surprising to me since I also like men, but, here we are. I'd like to just say that there are plenty of men in this book, despite my top picks! I digress. "Spin" involves a public spectacle of eroticism set while doing an aerialist routine. I have an affinity for all things that are carnival and circus, so this was a perfect way to end this collection of stories. Over all, there's a lot of authors here with a lot of stories to tell. They each do so differently, and it goes to show how so many different people can take one theme and run wild with it in all different directions. There's a lot of different fantasies and kinks here, so there's sure to be something for everybody. If you've enjoyed any of the other volumes from this anthology line, it will find a nice place on your shelf among the others. I received a copy in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!

This collection contains excellent erotica. It's well written and diverse, offering a range of kinks and tastes for everyone. Consent is big and safety is addressed, which matters to me as a reader because I like a dose of reality with my fantasy (if that makes any sense whatsoever). In addition to writers I recognized, such as Sierra Simone, Sabrina Sol and CD Reiss, there were a few new-to-me writers that now I'm eager to read and follow. Of course, not every story landed for me. I'm not interes This collection contains excellent erotica. It's well written and diverse, offering a range of kinks and tastes for everyone. Rating 3.5 An eclectic mix of steamy stories. Some I loved more than others but there was lots to enjoy here. Some of my fave stories include: - Sabrina Sol's about a female president, who is also latinx seeking pleasure with someone close to her. - Interpretation about Stella Harris which was all about the sensuality of touch. - the last story in the anthology, f/f with two circus performers. Who covertly have some sexy fun while doing their routine for an audience. - the story with a fat non-bina Rating 3.5 An eclectic mix of steamy stories. I loved this one because it's so important to see erotica that showcases a variety of identities, races and body type! - the story with the porn performer organizing a gang bang. I loved the tongue in cheek voice of this MC but I was extremely iffy about her using the word "Latino mutt" to describe one of the guys.(who is noted as being Spanish and Colombian) I have no clue if the author is Latinx but that came across as a poor phrasing choice in general. And just a big no from me. what I like overall was that the anthology has something for everyone. Some stories being a lot steamier than others and while some stories may not appeal to everyone (there were definitely some i just skimmed over or planned skipped because it just wasn't for me, like master/slave dynamics are not my jam) there is enough variety that there will be something readers will love for sure! All in all this was a satisfying read for me.

I really liked this anthology. All the stories had something different, yet still sexy to offer. Some were sweet, some were more cerebral, some had multiple partners, there were woman/woman stories as well. Pretty much everything you could ask for in erotic short stories!
