Mythical creatures are real, and the world is just finding out. Discovering that your neighbor was once an evil, blood-sucking fiend tends to bring property values down. Katrina Darling’s only real friend has been murdered. And not just murdered—ritually sacrificed by a serial killer. Kat is sure more death will follow. She should know … she used to be the monster plunging the blade in. Trouble is, after three hundred years of being a vampire, Kat has forgotten what it means to be human. One thing she does remember is that friends matter. Now she's determined to find whoever—or whatever—killed her friend before more victims surface. But just as the hunt begins, a mysterious young man discovers exactly what she was. Kat has a decision to make: Run and keep her monstrous past hidden, or avenge her friend and save the city from a merciless serial killer. If you like the Dresden Files, Mercy Thompson series or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you’ll be helplessly addicted to the Mortality Bites series. "Mythology, satire, and brutal honesty. Vance delivers a knockout punch of fun and fearlessness in every last one of his books. Not only does he make you laugh, he makes you think. That's a rare combination that few authors ever achieve, and Vance does it splendidly." — John P. Logsdon, author of the Paranormal Police Department series. What Amazon readers are saying: ★★★★★ ‘Urban Fantasy at its best.’ ★★★★★ ‘Irritatingly unputdownable.’ ★★★★★ ‘Refreshing in its uniqueness.’ ★★★★★ ‘Boy was this long overdue! I was just whining to my husband about how everyone seems to be working from the same book outline when this little gem popped up.’ ★★★★★ ‘Great world building.’ ★★★★★ ‘Really enjoyable story. I went directly to Book 2.’ ★★★★★ ‘Genuine giggles on every page.’ ★★★★★ ‘Oh I needed that ... Something different.’ ★★★★★ ‘Ex-vampires, avatars, fae, and humans just trying to get along … Make time to sit down and read through in one sitting.’ The Mortality Bites Series takes place in the GoneGod World...a unique setting of myths, magic and mischief. But what is the GoneGod World? Four years ago, the gods left. All of them. Their last message to humanity was "Thank you for believing in us, but it is not enough. We're leaving. Good luck." At first no one took them seriously. Until, that is, all the denizens of all the heavens and hells started showing up on people's doorsteps. Creatures from every religion, mythology, folklore or fairytale now live among us, mortal and homeless. Trouble is, after eons of living forever, elves, dragons, dwarves, oni-demons, even friggin’ Medusa aren't very good at being mortal. Welcome to the GoneGod World...

An interesting twist I quite enjoyed this series. The premise has an interesting and somewhat refreshing twist on the standard paranormal genre with an urban fantasy setting. The entire series was well done and I’m looking forward to continuing with the spin off books.

Original premise. I tried to stop reading part way through, just for a break. Just couldn't put it down until I finished.

Not good Thank the Gone Gods that I have finished this series. Why would you bench two of the best people in the book for jean? I don't plan on reading anything else from Ramy again!

I devoured this series! Kat, Deirdre and Egya have become like family. This is such an original take on the whole urban fantasy genre that I can't think of anything to compare it too. The six books in the series so far roam in style from Agatha Christie murder mystery to full on god-facing action heroics. I recommend you buy this box set. And when you do, sit down, buckle up, and dive in. You can thank me later.

Review of: Mortality Bites (Books 1-6) Over all the series was enjoyable to read, but in some areas was a little too much detail. The author's attitude towards people from the U.S. didn't go over too well with me. If you want to sell more books, I suggest you see where most of your books are sold!

Enjoyed the Gone Gods world and Kat. What an interesting vampire not vampire story. The world has no God's left. It's a gone gods world and shifters are no longer shifters and vampires are no longer blood sucking evil vampires. It's a fun, quirky action packed tale. Very good series.

Enjoyable read These books were a real treat. They covered a plethora of legend, god, and scary monster there is. Loved the way legends were included within the story. Worth the time to read.

Eh. Okay. Not worth continuing the series. Genre is promising, plot was...basic. Relies heavily on just throwing more unknown deities, mythology, and folklore at the reader. So, the questionable offspring of paranormal fiction and Wikipedia.

Love the story, but This was a fantastic series hindered by typos and errors that proofreads and editing should have caught. However, I did enjoy reading, despite being annoyed at the typos and errors. TLDR: plot gets 5 stars, but because of typos and errors, giving 3 stars

Enjoyable read Fun characters in a world turned upside down when the gods disappear and mythical creatures from all the world's mythos populate the earth. A little disappointed with the open ending after six books, but still a fun read.

Good series. This is my first experience with this author and I found the series to be thoroughly enjoyable. I was a little disappointed to find out that it wasn't finished though.

Just awfiul No story or character build-up. MC keeps repeating she is vampire turned human - sigh. I forces myself to read Book 1, skimmed a lot. That is an hour I won’t get back. I will not be finishing the series.

Really enjoyable read. Only downside is that 6 un-put-down-able books in one means that I’ve lost a few days to it!!

This is by far the most unique urban fantasy series I have ever read. And I have read a lot of them. The main character is hilarious and somehow still very relatable even though she is 300 years old. The concept behind it is that she used to be a vampire, but then one day, when all the gods left the earthly realm, she returned to her human form. The main character is hilarious and somehow still very relatable even though she is 300 years old. The concept behind it is that she used to be a vampire, but then one day, when all the gods left the earthly realm, she returned to her human form. She was in the middle of feasting on a human blood snack the moment that happened and immediately vomited everywhere. So what does a human, former vampire in a teenage body do? Goes to a university, of course! She makes friends with all kinds of mythological creatures… Because when the gods left, it also opened up the veils and literally rained mythical creatures all over the earth. She just wants to be normal, but has to admit to herself she is still a killing machine. And her job is to protect the “Others” (which is what all the mythological creatures are called in that world). The main character also has a hilarious habit of accidentally saying what she’s thinking out loud. It makes for some very amusing moments. There is, however, a very traumatizing part in one of the books where a vampire got trapped underwater and infested with barnacles… barnacles absolutely disgust me, but aside from that, I very much enjoyed every single page of every single book! I recommend the series very highly to anyone who loves urban fantasy, thrillers, mythological creatures, or just a really darn good story in general. Kudos to the author on a fantastic job well done!
