Omfg hell yeah. Isabelle's design got improved. fucking finally? 5stars just for that. There were scenes i wanted that got cut but that's life i guess. Not 100% sure that i know which scene is the brand-new exclusive scene... Not gonna lie tho, I wanted the new scene to be of Jace and Magnus living together ooorrr that scene where Alec fell on his neck. And now we wait for City Of Ashes Part 2.... Omfg hell yeah. I noticed that a lot, and I mean a lot of scenes were skimmed through or skipped entirely. I would much rather own a large quantity of graphic novels in order to get all the content of the books than only have a few and not get certain scenes. This adaption continues to be amazing! Many of the visuals are like they jumped out of my head, which is so cool to see. It was cool to have a scene from Simon’s POV at the hotel, which wasn’t in the original novel. We skipped Maia’s background story, but I’m assuming we’ll get that in a future installment, which will definitely feel more natural, so I think it’s a smart decision. I forgot this was coming out so this was such a treat! I continue to enjoy Cassandra Jean’s art with my fav characters and I’m actually also re-reading City of Ashes right now (this volume is the first half of City of Ashes), so it was fun to read along with the actual book. This volume included some of my favorite Simon moments which I was SO happy to see illustrated!! I can gush about Simon Lewis for a millennium so I’ll just stop this review here haha

It's not fair how short these are. I need them all nowww!! What can I say? It's amazing, incredible, fun (did I say amazing?) and so well done. Makes me want to re read the series again but I probably shouldn't since that would bring me to re read number 8* (* maybe 9?) and I think my other books would be insulted. I just want to see my baby, Sebastian, make his dramatic appearance already! Give me my evil little shithead!

even though these graphic novels tend to skim over scenes so i feel like the only way to fully grasp what’s going on is if you’ve already read the books, i’m still loving them so much!!! the shadowhunter books are always so fun and angsty and this is honestly making me miss reading the books about jace and clary and their very over dramatic and amazing story. I loved the angst of them!!!! and i know a lot of people tend to not like jace that much but I just love him and want him to be happy. i’m even though these graphic novels tend to skim over scenes so i feel like the only way to fully grasp what’s going on is if you’ve already read the books, i’m still loving them so much!!! the shadowhunter books are always so fun and angsty and this is honestly making me miss reading the books about jace and clary and their very over dramatic and amazing story. I feel like the fakest TMI fan right now. I genuinely remember this book as “Nothing less than 7 inches, boyfriend/girlfriend!Climon, Simon becomes a vampire, sexy vampire neck biting vol. 1, and that scene where Magnus makes the truck fly over the Hudson” deadass. They mentioned the dead Downworlder children and I looked out into space like,,,,, oh my god,,,,, yeah. I forgot about the Seelie Court, I really need to go die. That scene is iconic and a half. Isabelle covered Simon’s ears once they got to the Seelie Court because some revel was going on,,, that’s love mate. Cassandra Jean really said fuck Sizzy rights and took away my one Sizzy scene of this book. So rude. “I’ll kiss Simon. I’ve done it before, it wasn’t that bad.” RIP sweetie, you were replaced with, “I’ll kiss Clary. Can we just get a move on?” Doesn’t have the same impact. The way the Seelie Queen is drawn, damn Cassandra didn’t want you to even TRY and trust her, she just looks evil. Simon’s death scene will always be one of my favorites, but idk I didn’t feel the urgency like I did in the actual novel. That line when Clary was like, Jace and Isabelle are freaking out and I’m just numb, that shit is real and I didn’t feel that. Basically this is the story of how I left this book unfinished for a couple hours as I read that chapter in City of Ashes. Luke can still get it in every form, that hasn’t changed. I love Climon so much, they deserved more than just half a book to be together together and I will stay bitter about this until the end of time. Can it be next October? I need the next one, thanks.

After I suffered a major bookhangover thanks to Chain of Gold, I wasn't able to say goodbye to the Shadow World and realized I still hadn't read the third TMI graphic novel. I liked the style here way more than in the previous two. I didn't like the design of Izzy for example, and I think Cassandra Jean did a better job here with Izzy and Simon. Sadly, the reason why I am not giving this 5 stars, is because there are many scenes left out. It always feels like coming home whenever I read something about the Shadow World.

Though this graphic novel series makes a lot more sense than the TID one, it’s still not great to see how many scenes get either shorten or just cut off completely. I don’t want an exact replica of TMI in graphic novel form but c’mon give me something to hold onto. Besides that, I really liked the addition of that scene where Simon went to the Hotel Dumort by himself… it was great! I feel the art style growing a bit more on me with each volume. I loved everyone’s outfits in this volume and getting to see more of Magnus. It was also very nostalgic for me and reading it makes me want to reread city of ashes again, although it did remind how irritating I found Simon in this book lol

5/5 Stars I continue to really enjoy reading these graphic novels! I love seeing one of my favourite stories in visual format, it adds an extra depth. One thing that stood out to me was the change in Isabelle's dialogue during the Seelie Court scene. In the novel, she offers to kiss Simon, saying "Oh for the Angel's sake...I'll kiss Simon". This just keeps getting better. You know how powerful these graphic novels are? They are so powerful that I’m going to read TMI!!! Cassandra Jean really nailed some things. I still don’t like how Izzy seems more soft here but the rest is perfect!! I can’t believe that we have to wait until October or November to have the other volume!!!!! I’m dying already.

I hate the stupid love triangle characters, I started hating 1/3 of them in the previous volume but now I can't stand the whole lot of them. Clary couldn't be anymore of a Mary sue to me than she is portraying in this volume, she stands around a lot and wallows in her self-pity as her "nice guy" best friend and her "100% not her brother" love interest tug on both sides of her arms. She's so fucking stupid she can't even follow the most simple instructions for one page, as displayed in the fairy Court scene where she was told more than once not to consume anything handed to her and then proceeds to stick her fingers in her mouth after she stuck them in the fairy tea she was given. I still hate Simon's attitude that he thinks he's owed a relationship with Clary because of their long-time friendship and I hate Jace for his absolute stupidity as he continues believing the main antagonist is his father on no factual basis; and also that he and Clary are related because not-his-father said so and that's the only reason he won't give into his shallow feelings for Clary. I hate them all. The only 2 I marginally enjoyed were Alec and Magnus and their little relationship on the side. I would actually have preferred reading about them two than whatever the hell this plot is throwing at the walls like a spoiled child screaming it's head off. I'm never picking up these books, nor the original novels, again. Not a good first impression to an author's repertoire, I doubt I'll be looking into any of her other works any time soon after the glimpse of her writing that I got from this mess.

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I've read/seen so many adaptations of City of Bones, but hardly anyone has made it to City of Ashes! I adore City of Ashes, it has some of the best Alec moments ("Mostly extinct is NOT EXTINCT ENOUGH," "You have something on your neck. It looks like a bite mark." "What? No! I fell!", "He's not MY warlock," Alec having a key to Magnus's flat, "Does he normally lie on the floor like that without moving?" What--that's not funny" "You're so easy to tease," "Where are we going to I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I've read/seen so many adaptations of City of Bones, but hardly anyone has made it to City of Ashes! Obviously, this was only half the book so we didn't get to all that, but I still LOVED it. I'm so sad I had to wait a whole year for the next volume, but I also don't want Cassandra Jean to work herself to exhaustion, so I can wait! The one complaint I have is how she changed the lines in the "Help me convince him that I really don't care" scene, because her changes to Jace's lines make what Jace said less bad. I know there's always some detail/subtlety lost in graphic novel adaptations, but I think about that scene a LOT, so it really stuck out to me. Jace was so negligent of Alec's feelings until literally City of Heavenly Fire (when he apologized for it), and this is an issue that's really important to me, so the changes weren't my favorite thing ever.

Once again, my reviews are unashamedly biased because I love The Mortal Instruments and, even more importantly here, I absolutely adore everything Cassandra Jean draws. I love how these are a great recap of the plot of the novels and how they're still able to work in some of the best lines. While I'm not the biggest fan of Cassandra Jean's art style, I do appreciate the time and effort it takes to do this! I can't make symmetrical stick figures. Overall, I enjoy these a lot and I can't wait until I have a full collection! Only like 9 more to go! Which makes me wonder, will the larger books get more volumes? Craaaazy.

Cassandra Jean is such a master of graphic novels, she really has magic hands when drawing The Mortal Instruments characters. I loved 1000% how she visually tells Cassandra Clare's story with some fun Easter Eggs hidden here and there. Also the diagrams about the flower bouquet for each character was a nice addition to the story, the language of the flowers is a great field. Thanks for an amazing book! Cant't wait for the next volume
