What a delightful little book! I've read several reviews where the reviewer complained about the overt hit-you-over-the-head religious message hammered into your brain, but I totally did not get that. I'm not a very religious person, so maybe I'm just clueless. But I very much enjoyed the story, and even the writing. I have the entire series (I think, it ends with book 7, right?) and look forward to them all. And I'll admit, reading this made me want to see the movie again.

I loved how this book was graphic, I loved the pictures. It kept me more interested by having pictures rather than just a chapter book.

Very nice illustrated edition. Doesn't have the professor's trilemma.

A group of brothers and sisters walk into a closet, and they find a place called Narnia. One of the siblings, Lucy, tells them about it. They do not believe it. But then they figure out she's not lying and there lives are changed forever. They wander around in this world and some bad things happen. While exploring her uncle's house, Lucy, the youngest Pevensie sibling, finds that a wardrobe opens into a fantastical world called Narnia. She has tea with a faun and they become fast friends, but the faun says a villain called the White Witch has given strict orders for any human children to be turned over to her, and the faun refuses to betray Lucy. When she returns home, her siblings don't believe in the magic land, though her older brother Edmund travels there next and meets the White Witch. She sends him back through the wardrobe after bewitching him with Turkish Delight, commanding him to bring Lucy and his older siblings, Peter and Susan. When the siblings all go to Narnia together, they find warnings of the White Witch, and a pair of talking beavers tell them the witch wants to kill them because prophecy says she'll be undone by human children like them. But since Aslan--the noble lion--has returned to the land, the queen's evil winter may be over. Unfortunately, Edmund is still bewitched by her and runs away to inform her, and before long, Aslan and his troops must face the queen's forces in battle, with Edmund's life hanging in the balance. The effectiveness of ultimate sacrifice may depend on who really knows the laws of the land. This one is the most obvious of the Christianity-inspired stories--it's full of Jesus imagery, and there are multiple themes of sin, redemption, honor, bravery, and sacrifice. The writing is pretty straightforward and readable, though there are little voices whispering throughout that children are supposed to learn life lessons here. (I find that to be very distracting and makes it less enjoyable.) I liked that Aslan knew more about the magical laws of the universe than the White Witch did. The ending made me wonder how the children's adventure in Narnia actually would have affected them psychologically, since they spend many years there but emerge from the wardrobe as children again.

A highly condensed version of the story that still captures so much of its essence, and with such beautiful imagery! I wish I could hang up all the pages as decoration!

"The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" is a magical tale. It was about 4 siblings who found a magic wardrobe and ended up in a entirely different world. A friend was captured by an evil witch. They seek a powerful lion for help. The witch heard a prophecy that said that 4 siblings will take their place on the throne. The White Witch wants to keep the throne, so she plans to kill the lion and the kids. The lion and the 4 kids journeyed to stop the White Witch and save their friend. I picked this up as a fun way to practice my Spanish skills. I was making great progress, underlining and looking up the words I don't know, when I accidentally left the book on a plane. Argh! So I am no longer reading this book right now. I hope to come back to it at some point in the future. From the ~4 chapters that I read, I got the interesting sense that the book was less.. well.. charming than it is in English. Some of the dialogue is simplified; no doubt the Britishisms are very hard to tr I picked this up as a fun way to practice my Spanish skills. This is what started my love for everything Narnia. I found this in my second grade classroom library and was immediately hooked. For anyone who says that comic books don't promote effective reading, this one actually made me want to dive into the original books once I was ready for them. If my memory serves correctly it also contains what I remember as the most complete map of Narnia and surrounding countries.

Initially my least favorite Birthday present in third grade. However, a great read and a great gift for an eight year old. It was NOT until 2012 I actually picked up the book and read it. However, The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe opened my imagination vividly and captured my intest all the way through back as a 24 year old.
